RPR CO was started by Rusty Cohn about twenty years ago as a Volvo repair operation in a single-car garage at his parents' house, with engines being rebuilt in his bedroom. As the volume of customers seeking Rusty's repairs grew, so did the quantity of Volvo parts stocked. Upon graduating from college, Rusty moved the business to a small commercial garage in Berkeley, California.
Eventually, customers and repair garages started buying parts from RPR CO, and a choice had to be made of staying in repair or becoming a "parts only" business. Since he had done repair for quite a while, Rusty decided to switch into parts and has slowly expanded the parts operation over the last fifteen years. About four years ago, the business moved to Albany, California and into the auto parts store shown on the main page. This location has approximately 3,000 square feet devoted to Volvo parts.
Information systems have become very important in improving customer service, and much effort has been invested in developing a custom RPR computer program. This program features parts descriptions as well as Volvo microfiche, parts books, bulletins, and Volvo service updates. RPR CO also has a printing microfiche machine and can help customers with parts questions by sending parts diagrams via FAX.
